Auckland
Take in the view from The Sky TowerTake a trip up the Sky Tower, the largest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. Marvel at the view over the harbour and the seven volcanoes of Auckland. Walk on the glass floor panels if you are feeling brave. For the braver still try the sky walk on an outside platform. And for the very, very brave then how about the skyjump off the side in an 80m wire-assisted freefall!
Relax on One Tree Hill
One of Auckland's seven volcanic cones and an ancient Maori fortification. The one tree was lost in 2006 but today the hill is full of daffodils in spring and enjoyed by people taking strolls, or running or simply relaxing in the beautiful grounds. Made famous in recent times by rock music supergroup U2 who had their first New Zealand number one hit with a track called One Tree Hill, dedicated to the memory of a Kiwi friend of lead singer Bono.
Stroll around historic Devonport
The historic seaside village of Devonport has a charming and relaxed atmosphere. Stroll around the art galleries and points of interest. Stop at the tea rooms and cafes, enjoy the view of Auckland and the architecture of renovated Victorian villas.
Watch the world go by in Viaduct Harbour
Have lunch at one of the many restaurants in this lively and popular harbour area. With a marina full of yachts of all shapes and sizes to admire and the Devonport ferries bustling in and out, it's a great place to watch the world go by.
Get out on the water
To not take to the water is to miss the point of the City of Sails. Whether it's a harbour tour, a ride in an America's Cup yacht, a boat trip to a suburban beach, a spot of whale-watching or just the ferry to Devonport, to see Auckland from the water is to see it at its most natural.
